At the Port of Québec, we believe that being a good neighbour calls for open, constructive dialogue with the community. It also means actively involving stakeholders in the development of a sustainable, committed, and forward-looking port.
Our team makes sure to include the community in Port projects and acknowledge the value of citizen expertise. That’s why it’s taken several steps to encourage community involvement.
These discussion forums are an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss cohabitation issues, express concerns, ask questions, find information, and share ideas and recommendations.

The Community Relations Committee enables us to establish a formal, ongoing dialogue with local stakeholders from all walks of life. The committee meets around four times a year. It looks at the issues that are most important to citizens and different players within the community. This platform for invaluable discussion fits into our sustainable development approach and recognizes the important role citizens play in the port’s development.
The Jeunes à Bord committee is a way to exchange information and ideas with the next generation. It’s also a way to learn more about their vision of the industrial port world, environmental issues, and cohabitation between the city and the port.
Co-creation workshops are held in the preliminary phase of Port projects that involve the community. They help solidify ideas and a vision ahead of a project’s development, and are a useful way of gathering stakeholders’ suggestions and recommendations.
Public consultations are a way for the Port to share the details of the projects it has chosen. These meetings are part of the Impact Assessment and Mitigation Process (IAMP) as they allow the Port to assess the risks and impacts for stakeholders. They also ensure that the final decisions are informed and made alongside the community.
Neighbourhood round tables (Tables de bon voisinage) bring together the citizens living near the Port of Québec to talk about the issues affecting their neighbourhoods. Together, we discuss local issues and work to enrich our common environment. These meetings take place in small groups, where friendly discussion is encouraged.
The Je participe citizen consultation platform is an easy-to-use online tool. It’s a way for citizens to share their ideas and get information on the Port’s projects. It includes project descriptions, timelines, current status, people in charge, consultation reports, survey results, and much more. Note, however, that it is only available in French.
