FCCQ Les Mercuriades 2024 Contest: Port of Québec Finalist in the Community Engagement Category

Québec, March 26, 2024 – The Port de Québec is proud to announce that it is a finalist in the Community Engagement category for the 44th edition of the prestigious Les Mercuriades awards held by the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec (FCCQ). This prize rewards innovative strategies that further community development. The Port stood out in this category with an approach based on social innovation, which included the active involvement of stakeholders in the design and advancement of port projects.

Our Vision: Be Closer to Our Community
In January 2023, the Port of Québec unveiled its 2035 Vision, thus revealing its ambition to become a benchmark in community engagement. Since then, the Port has taken many initiatives to solidify this commitment into its daily practices. “Our decisions are deeply rooted in our engagement to the community with which we are so deeply intertwined. We made that promise and it drives the Port of Québec teams daily,” noted Port of Québec CEO, Mario Girard.

It is why the Port invested in a three-person team dedicated to relations with various communities, including residents, port members, First Nations peoples and members of the business community. Their mission is to promote harmonious cohabitation. Following are some of the projects achieved:

  • Created and held good neighbour roundtables where 41 citizens freely expressed their concerns about port activities and proposed solutions.
  • Organized co-creation workshops. Four sessions brought together over 100 citizens and members of local organizations who collaborated to design projects meeting their aspirations and needs.
  • Held public consultations proposing two new facilities on port territory, including La Cale du Port de Québec. These have resulted in 47 suggestions from 61 participants.
  • Young People on Board committee formed, comprising eight young people aged 20 to 30, from various disciplines, such as architecture, entrepreneurship and regional planning. The committee aims to collect the new generation’s ideas and understand their vision of the Port.
  • Created the Je participe citizen consultation platform, which has recorded over 12,000 visits since June 2022, and 2440 citizen contributions.

Winners will be announced on May 6, 2024, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal.
